Dwarf pair pump out gravity waves

Researchers have spotted visible-light evidence for one of astronomy's most elusive targets - gravity waves - in the orbit of a pair of dead stars.

Until now, these ripples in space-time, first predicted by Einstein, have only been inferred from radio-wave sources.

But a change in the orbits of two white dwarf stars orbiting one another 3,000 light-years away is further proof of the waves that can literally be seen.

A study to be reported in Astrophysical Journal Letters describes the pair.

Gravitational waves were a significant part of Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity, which viewed space itself as a malleable construct, and the gravity of massive objects as a force that could effectively warp it.

Catching sight of an actual gravity wave, however, is a tricky business; their effects are far too small to be measured with Earth-bound experiments.

But the wider Universe provides a laboratory in which the indirect effects of gravity waves can be measured.

Six-second switch

In principle, any two massive objects orbiting one another can emit gravitational waves, slowly losing the momentum of their orbits into the waves.

The effect is to slightly change the size of the orbits, and the time it takes to complete them.

A measurement of a minuscule change in the orbits of rapidly rotating neutron stars called pulsars garnered the 1993 Nobel Prize in physics.

But pulling off the same trick with visible light has until now eluded researchers.

It is the extreme nature of the pair of white dwarf stars known as J0651 - each a substantial fraction of our Sun's mass orbiting each other at a distance just a third that between the Earth and Moon - that increases the magnitude of the gravity waves.

As members of the same team reported in Astrophysical Journal in 2011, the pair orbit each other in less than 13 minutes.

Since that discovery, the team has been keenly watching the pair "eclipse" one another, with each briefly blocking out the other's light as seen from Earth.

Over a period of 13 months, the team saw the orbital period reduce by less than a thousandth of a second, but the effect also shifts when the eclipse time is expected to happen, and that has shifted back by some six seconds since the pair were discovered.

"A lot of these indirect measurements have taken people years, mostly because the orbits are so much longer," explained lead author of the study, JJ Hermes from the University of Texas at Austin.

Mr Hermes told BBC News that he liked the idea that such a groundbreaking result was established in part by using a telescope nearly as old as Einstein's theory: the Otto Struve 2.1m telescope at the McDonald Observatory in Texas.

"There have been 30 years of using radio telescopes and timing pulsars, but this is the first time we've been able to detect the influence of gravitational wave radiation using an optical telescope," he told BBC News.

The team will continue to watch the pair's tightening orbit, and the expected eclipse time should shift back by another 20 seconds by next May. The results will also help guide observations from "direct detection" experiments.

These, such as the proposed eLisa project, aim to measure the tiny relative movements of vastly separated detectors as gravitational waves pass - a final, irrefutable proof that the waves are what relativity predicted so long ago.

"It would be a really nice confirmation if we got one of these laser interferometer missions going - we'd know exactly what to look for," Mr Hermes said.

"We've crunched the numbers, and eLisa would be able to detect this thing in about a week."

What happens if your community loses its flood insurance ...

Kathryn Hawkins

West Pittston ? a northern Pennsylvania town of about 5,000 residents ? is bordered by the Susquehanna River. After the region flooded 40 years ago, residents were offered a choice to build a levee or to leave the town unprotected to maintain the picturesque river views.

At the time, the consensus of both town residents and government officials was to keep the views, although most neighboring towns elected to build levees.

In 2011, the decision cost West Pittston dearly. Following Tropical Storm Lee, many houses were flooded up to second-story heights, according to The New York Times. Many residents lost all of their possessions.

Now, the residents of West Pittston may lose something else: their flood insurance.

fema-floodThe Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently announced that unless West Pittston made significant improvements to its flood management program by Dec. 1, the town would be put on probation with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). If FEMA determines that the town hasn?t made enough headway by the end of the probationary period, the town could be suspended from the national program, forcing residents to seek high-priced, hard-to-get private insurance.

If you live in a flood-prone area, could you lose your national flood insurance, too? Here?s what you should know.

How the National Flood Insurance Program works

NFIP was developed in 1968 to provide subsidized flood insurance for people who live in high-risk flood areas, where private insurance is not available or is quite expensive. Standard home insurance policies don?t cover flood damage. The federal program is administered by FEMA in partnership with more than 90 private insurance companies. Rates do not vary from company to company, but are based on a set of risk factors for your property.

Community participation in the program is voluntary, says Nicole Lick, senior mitigation planning specialist at FEMA. By participating in the program, they can gain access to more affordable flood insurance than they?d find on the private market, as well as access to disaster relief funds in case of major flooding.

In exchange for those benefits, the community agrees to comply with NFIP?s minimum standards for floodplain management related to building codes and other factors.

Although optional, communities are encouraged to participate in the Community Rating System incentive program. Under this program, residents of these communities receive discounted insurance premiums based on action taken to prevent flood damage.

?There?s a broad menu of different options,? Lick says. ?Communities can do everything from putting higher regulatory standards into their building codes to sending floodplain administrators to trainings, or having flood preparation pamphlets available in their local library.?

Communities that participate in the program are rated on their efforts, and can receive premium reductions of 5 percent to 45 percent, Lick says. Now, about two-thirds of NFIP-insured communities participate in the discount program.

Going on probation

If a community fails to live up to the NFIP?s minimum standards, however, it may risk being suspended from the program.

In West Pittston?s case, FEMA identified numerous deficiencies with the town?s flood management plans. In many cases, government authorities had neglected to issue floodplain building permits for properties being built in the town?s ?special flood zone? areas, which are highly susceptible to flooding, Lick says. Additionally, the town had almost 20 ?substantially damaged? structures, which had not been renovated to meet modern code to comply with NFIP guidelines.

These shortcomings likely came to light because of the Tropical Storm Lee flooding.

?When a community fails to enforce restrictions, FEMA doesn?t usually do inspection,? says Rita Hollada, a flood insurance broker in Delaware. ?Usually, FEMA gets involved when there have been flooding losses and asks, ?Why did this flooding happen???

West Pittston has until Dec. 1, 2012, to comply with the NFIP guidelines. If that doesn?t happen, the community will go on probation, and both new and renewing policyholders must pay a $50 annual surcharge. If the community fails to make progress after that point, the town may be yanked from the flood insurance program.

Officials in West Pittston couldn?t be reached for comment.

What suspension means

?Getting suspended from the NFIP is worse than never joining the program at all,? Hollada says.

When a community is suspended, not only is it ineligible for the National Flood Insurance Program, but it also may be ineligible for any federal disaster relief funds following a flood-related natural catastrophe.

Other than NFIP, homeowners often don?t have an affordable option for protecting their properties against flooding. Richard Sobota, a FEMA insurance specialist, says that specialty private insurers such as Lloyd?s of London may insure such homes; however, homeowners may not be able to pay the price. According to Hollada, Lloyd?s generally has a minimum premium of $3,500 per year.

Being suspended from the NFIP also can ding home values, Hollada says. ?It makes it very difficult for people to sell those properties,? she says. ?People find out what flood insurance will cost without the NFIP and back away.?

Program suspensions do happen, Lick says. In Louisiana, for instance, 23 townships were suspended from NFIP in 2010 for non-compliance.

However, after being suspended, most communities take immediate action to regain their NFIP standing, Hollada says. As of 2012, just one Louisiana town is on suspension. ?Most of the time they get their problems solved,? Hollada says. Suspended communities always are eligible for reinstatement once they?ve proven NFIP?s issues have been resolved.

In some cases, residents may not even be aware of their town?s NFIP status. To find out whether you?re at risk of losing your flood insurance, look up your town in the NFIP?s Community Status Book. If there?s a problem, urge your local government to fix it before your community is suspended.

Everything You Need To Know About Building More Muscle ...

If you would like to build more muscle mass, try to do less repetitions of heaver weights. You will need to increase your weight gradually and strive to lift the heaviest that you possibly can for a minimum of five repetitions. When you can life for five repetitions, it is time to increase weights.

You need to drink at least 4 liters of water every day if you want your muscles to grow. The body needs water to function properly but muscles need water to be able to rebuild after a workout and to grow in size. Drinking water is easy if you carry a water bottle with you everywhere you go.

Beginners at weight lifting should take one day off in between each day of exercise. This will help to prevent injury, because it gives your muscles a chance to recuperate. In addition, it will keep you from feeling exhausted from your new exercise routines, giving you the best chance at continuing on toward achieving your goals.

If you are trying to build muscle, eat several small meals a day instead of three large ones. Your body will most effectively use the calories, vitamins, minerals, and protein sources that you put into it, if it only has to work on digesting a small amount at a time. This can lead to increased fuel for the muscles that you are working.

Consider employing the services of a personal trainer. An experienced personal training can use their expertise to create a tailor-made workout plan for you to follow, which will help you to build your muscles quickly and safely. If you continue to work out without professional guidance, it could take you much longer to get the physique that you desire.

Focus on one thing at a time. If you want to build mass, you should concentrate on mass building exercises rather than developing your cardio. Working on your cardio will help you develop other parts of your body and might slow down the building of your muscles if it becomes the focus of your training.

Once in a while, you should replace your usual training routine by a completely different workout. Go out for a jog or head out to the local swimming pool, for instance. You will notice how much easier these activities have become for you, and this will help you stay motivated.

There have been many studies that have proven that listening to your favorite music while lifting, can help you work longer. It can increase the number of reps that you can do before losing interest or getting bored. The more reps you do, the more muscle you will build faster.

Train at least three times per week. You need at least three training sessions every week if you want to see significant muscle growth. If you are really new at weight training, this can be reduced to two at the start; however, you should increase the number of sessions per week as soon as you are able. If you already have some experience with strength training, you can add more sessions as well.

Do not attempt extreme cardio training with weight training. Done within reason, this combo can be truly beneficial for your health, but when done in extreme fashions can contradict one another minimizing the results that you see from either one of them. Pick one to focus on and stay committed to working on it regularly.

Do not spend your money on expansive training methods or supplements. You can get in shape and gain mass naturally with a few simple exercises. Develop a good work out routine and focus on doing more sets or adding an extra training session every week instead of following a miracle method.

To gain that lean muscle mass, be sure to use free weights. These have been proven to work better than cables and machines for building lean muscle. Free weights allow you to use many different muscles as you lift. This way, you will be stimulating added muscle growth by working the extra muscles.

When you are trying to build muscle to improve your health and fitness, it is essential to recognize that rest is just as important as the exercise in encouraging muscle growth. Muscles need recovery time to repair damage and build new fibers. Working out too frequently or too aggressively can work against you in the long run.

Any time you are lifting a heavy free weight, it is very important that you have a spotter. This is someone who knows the routine that you are doing and also understands when you are requiring help. Many times this person can become a type of gym buddy as well.

Keep junk food out of your house. If this bad food isn?t stored somewhere in the home, you aren?t as likely to consume it. Junk food increases the amount of fat on your body and decreases your ability to grow muscle. Therefore, if you are intent on gaining muscle, you should do all you can to keep junk food away from the home.

As you can see, putting on muscle is something that anyone can do with the proper knowledge. Now that you know what you need to do to get the body you want, soon you?ll be looking and feeling great. Don?t wait! Apply these tips now, to see a big improvement!

Robin Roberts to Leave Good Morning America, Undergo Bone Marrow Transplant

Robin Roberts returned to Good Morning America last week, following a three-week leave of absence for medical reasons.

But the anchor announced today that she's heading out of the co-anchor's chair once again on Friday, as she's scheduled to undergo a bone marrow transplant in order to overcome her diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).

Roberts will be admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, explaining to viewers:

"It still takes about 10 days after being admitted because there are some things you have to go through before the transplant actually occurs."

Good Morning America Team

The journalist's sister is a perfect match and will serve as Roberts' marrow donor. It's unclear how long Roberts will be gone for, but initial estimates are around two months.

"I know I’m going to have a job when I come back," Roberts told viewers.

In her place, Good Morning America will feature a number of big named guest anchors. The program will also dedicate time all this week to "Robin's Journey," which will highlight the reporter's defeat of breast cancer and also include powerful stories about families who have faced and overcome an MDS diagnosis.

We wish Roberts nothing but the absolute best. Here's to a speedy, full recovery.

For Paralympian Donovan Tildesley, 'vision' means seizing day ...

Gary Kingston

As a blind person, Donovan Tildesley utilizes a talking computer, which features a digitalized voice reading off the screen.

?To someone sighted who hears it for the first time, it sounds rather ridiculous,? says the Paralympic swimmer/golfer/skier/insurance broker/motivational speaker and, most recently, standup comic. ?So one of my jokes has to do with ?How does a blind person look at porn?? And then I imitate this voice reading a [porn] story off the screen.

?It?s a little offensive,? he adds with a laugh. ?It?s like ?Who the hell would go there?? ? Well, as you are about to find out, there are very few places Tildes-ley, a 28-year-old adventurer and ladies? man and a guy with limit-less vision, won?t go.

Double black diamond ski runs. Parachuting out of a plane. A planned hike of Kilimanjaro. Or, a joke about a female insurance agent getting a boob job.

?I work in an office with a bunch of women and I answer the phone a lot of times. We?ll get calls from clients ?Oh, I was speaking to the girl, uh, the smallish, red-headed girl.? ?And I tell them I?ll have to ask around the office. ?I kept asking and no such person worked there.? But then I found out later in the day that my colleague dyed her hair and got breast implants that weekend.?

Now, his act isn?t all blue humour suitable for college campuses and HBO. There is some family-friendly fare. Like the joke about him being a pretty bad kid.

?My parents had to come up with alternate ways of disciplining me,? says Tildesley, who has been blind since birth as a result of being born with-out retinas. ?They couldn?t exactly take away my Nintendo because I didn?t play the damn thing. And I couldn?t watch TV. So, whenever I stepped out of line or did something foolish, they?d go and move the furniture on me.?

Ba-da-boom.

Tildesley, a five-time Paralym-pic medallist in the pool, is about to compete in his fourth Games starting Thursday in London. But for a young man once defined by how fast he could swim without benefit of sight, so much has changed in the four years since he was Canada?s flagbearer during the opening ceremonies at Beijing.

He got a job at Buntain Insurance, went skydiving for his 25th birthday, took up golf, spent seven months in 2011 at the Colorado Centre for the Blind learning independent living and tried his hand at cracking wise on a stage.

All of which means that earning a medal this time around, at what he says will be his last Paralympics, might be tough. He?s not sad about it. It?s just that priorities change. You get older. New challenges await.

?I can?t be an athlete for the rest of my life.?

He was an inspirational, vocal leader in Beijing, extremely honoured that his teammates felt him worthy of being the flagbearer.

?It?s not going to be the same high,? he says of London. ?I?m going to be in a different mind space. Four years ago, swimming was very much my life. I?m not saying it isn?t any more, but I?m at the point in my life right now where I know that winning a medal is no guarantee.

?This Games is icing on the cake. If I can get up on that podium, I?d be ecstatic, but if I can somehow motivate other athletes on my team, other younger swimmers, get them excited to perform to their personal bests, then I will have done some of my job over there.

?The other thing is I?m in the insurance industry now. How can I tie this success in the pool to growing my own book of business? How can being a Paralympian help me to become a better salesman for myself and my company? What can I do with social media to increase that? So I?m looking at it from the holistic experience.?

NEEDS OWN APARTMENT

A preppy looking Tildesley ? a collared shirt, dress shorts and loafers ? is seated at the outdoor patio of a restaurant on Broadway, having just finished lunch with a female colleague from another Buntain office, when we sit down to talk.

He and Christina Cavaco, who is off to a new job in Calgary soon, have known each for three years, but become really good friends in the last few months through extended conversations about their shared passion for sales, people and personal growth.

Cavaco is half-Italian, half-Portuguese and incredibly attractive. And you can?t help but think that it?s a shame that Donovan can?t see this woman. But in a sense he can, just in his own way.

?It seems so funny when he talks about me,? Cavaco says in an interview days later when asked if she believes Donovan appreciates her beauty. ?It makes me feel a little weird, makes me go red. I say ?You can?t see me,? but he says ?I can hear it in the way you talk.?

?With women, he?s not shy at all. He?s obviously blind, but he?ll go up to any lady and start talking to her. He says he can tell by her voice and the smell of her scent if she?s attractive.

?He?s such a great guy to hang out with, just amazing.?

Tildesley, who still lives with his parents in Point Grey, says his only difficulty with women is that he doesn?t have a home of his own for them to take him back to.

He?s looking for a place, but needs one that is close to work and the Arbutus Club pool.

?I have a good feeling that after this Games, this will be the year it happens. Plus, it makes me more marketable to the opposite sex. A guy who lives at home? It?s harder to find dates.?

To prepare for his independence, he spent those seven months at the school in Colorado, although it wasn?t quite what he had expected.

?I went down there expecting to meet blind go-getters who wanted to start their own businesses and wanted to make tons of money. But I met people who had lost their sight later in life who didn?t know what to do, kids who were just out of high school trying to figure their way in life, people with other learning disabilities. I remember getting there the first day and half the people didn?t even know what the Paralympics were. So, it was a rather humbling experience.?

He did learn how to cook ? the final task was cooking a meal for 60 people ? and fell in love with Colorado and its spectacular outdoors. He climbed a 4,200-metre mountain with Eric Weihenmayer, the first blind person to reach the summit of Everest in 2001 and a man who starred last year in the ABC reality show Expedition Impossible.

?Honestly, if I didn?t have a job to come to back here and a Paralympics to train for, I would have stayed in Colorado. While the school wasn?t quite what I expected, I got the life experience and it instilled in me this new confidence and this greater appreciation for the world around me and helped me to feel more comfortable in my new skin.?

On his return, he joined friend Amber Weland ? ?one of the most naturally funny people I know,? he says ? at a comedy show at the Fray on Fraser last December. ?We kind of turned to each other and said these guys suck and she says ?you and me in 2012, we?re going to put on some shows.? ? Weland and Tildesley, by the way, met a few years back at a Board of Trade function when she offered him her elbow as he was getting out of a taxi.

?We became fast friends from there,? says Weland. ?That day, he ended up sort of trash-talking me into doing a day of skiing with him up at Whistler. I?m a pretty good snowboarder and he often leaves me behind. I tell him he makes a great ski buddy. With him, I can get up in the morning and not have to do my hair or put on mascara. As long as I put on deodorant, I?m okay.?

One night last February, Tildesley beat out a dozen other budding comics at the Fray ? ?I guess I had a lot of friends out that night who drank a lot of drinks? ? winning $100 and a chance to perform in the finals at the Edgewater Casino. He didn?t win and has been a bit too busy recently to get back on stage, but hopes to find some time after the Paralympics. ?I?m constantly trying to think of new material that?s not too offensive.?

Tildesley, who has a BA in English literature from UBC, was set to take a job with RBC in the Visa call centre after Beijing when his family?s neighbour, Gordon Buntain, suggested he come work for him and help develop his company?s travel medical insurance.

It hasn?t been easy ? finding adapt-able software, dealing with potential roadblocks put up by regulatory agencies. But the blunt-spoken, high-energy Buntain has backed Tildesley at every step.

?I told him ?you can do anything you wish, but let?s dream big,? ? said Bun-tain. ?Yes, there?s going to be hurdles, but I?ll support you.?

Tildesley says it has been challenging. ?But over time, I?ve figured out that I have a passion for sales. I absolutely love people and building relationships, getting to know them and helping to solve their problems.?

?IN THE BEST SHAPE POSSIBLE?

Tildesley took up golf a few years ago. He hasn?t played as much as he?d like, but this spring, Buntain sponsored a hole at a fundraising tournament for Donovan?s old school, St. George?s.

?Basically, it was a longest drive com-petition,? says Tildesley. ?I would get up and hit a shot and people would try to hit their ball past mine. It was called Beat the Blind Guy.?

Utilizing a sighted guide, Tildes-ley loves ripping down the slopes at Whistler, but says he has no interest in becoming a Winter Paralympian.

?Gates scare the hell out of me. Ski-ing?s like my therapy. I like to go up to the alpine and cut down the steepest and the deepest. I?d be worried that taking it on as a serious sport would take the fun out of it for me and I need that in my life.?

But in the next breath, he says with a big smile, ?You know what I think would be a good sport? Blind ski cross. Imagine a bunch of blind guys going through a gate and all trying to stay on course and not run into each other.?

In London, Tildesley, who competes in the S11 class with other totally blind swimmers, will race the 100-metre butterfly, the 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley.

He owns freestyle world records at 800 and 1,500 metres, but those distances aren?t contested at the Paralympics. In Beijing, he earned bronze at 400 metres and was fourth in the 100. He was also fifth in the 100 backstroke and seventh in the 100 butterfly.

Spaniard Mohamed Enhamed won four gold in Beijing, two in world record time. He is back, as are key competitors from Ukraine, China and Argentina. There is also a strong new-comer from the U.S. in Brad Snyder, who was blinded last September while serving in Afghanistan and who had captained the Naval Academy swim team in his senior year.

?I think I?m in the best shape possible,? says Tildesley. ?Am I as spry as I was four years ago, eight years ago? Maybe not. But I?ve done the work. I?ve put in the metres. I?ve just got to decide in my own head that I can stand up and race as fast as I can and get myself on the podium.?

He says he?ll probably swim for one more year after the Paralympics, go to one more world championships. Then, he?d like to give back to the sport by serving on some athlete councils.

?I think a lot can be done for advocacy in the sport. I wish there was a way to get more blind people involved in sport because it?s really done so much for my life. It?s not only physically and mentally beneficial, but it?s opened so many doors.

?I wouldn?t be the person I am today, have the friends I do today without my involvement in sport and the confidence it?s instilled in me.?

Do You Use Small Business Consulting Services? ~ Business ...

Using small business consulting services involves seeking out some professionals in your industry so that they can offer you advice based on their area of expertise. One of the best things about consulting services is that you can find it in a variety of topics including coaching, marketing, finance and legal.

The one thing that you want to think about with consulting is that professional consultants are considered experts in their field so make sure you do your due diligence before hiring a consultant.

What work is involved in consulting?

With consulting, what happens is that the consultant is providing their clients with information, like white papers but they also provide their clients with some first-hand expert knowledge based on years of experience in the trenches.

Basically they serve as your counsel. Not to give you opinions but to give you sound advice based on facts and past successes.

With a consultant all of the information that they provide is going to be tailored to a specific area because what they are trying to do is provide their clients with advice to help solve a problem in the fastest time possible.

Small business consulting services also provide their clients with brainstorming ideas to help find solutions and they can often provide their customers with new ideas on how to handle different aspects of their business.

One point small business owners need to understand is, that consultants are only as good as the information you provide to them. You need to give them some detailed info about your business so they can put their teeth into it and chew on it.

If you give them very vague information they will lead you in all kinds of different directions. And then you have to figure out which way to take, not them.

What makes a great consulting service?

Consultants have specific traits that make them better than other consultants, so when choosing a consultant you want to look for these traits to find the best one for your purposes.

Great consultants provide their clients with motivation and excellent ideas. They are also prepared to deal with any type of situation, no matter how complex or hostile it might be.

They must use their skills to assess a situation quickly and provide advice on what needs to be done to solve the situation.

Types of consulting services

In consulting there are two types of consultants, which are specialists and generalists.

- a specialist focuses on a specific area, such as a specific industry like accounting.

- the generalist focuses on a larger area of consulting, they tend to give advice to many different companies, and industry specific advice is not their main focus.

The best services out there are not only giving advice but also bring a lot more to the table. Top services are going to be able to bring ideas to their clients based on their area of expertise, share insights, new trends, provide customers with creative solutions and implement the solutions that they are suggesting.

If you're looking for small business consulting services pick a consulting company that is specialized in one subject area for example marketing strategies. Most importantly look for consultants that are people persons and are willing to work long hard hours according to your schedule.

Researching the methods required to succeed in network marketing is essential. These tips can help you to spread the message of your network marketing.

When you have learned from your mistakes, you are in an excellent position to move forward to success. It is crucial to admit to your failures and understand how to correct them. A better understanding of how and why you failed lets you know which methods are not working, so you can focus on using the ones that do.

There are lots of people who have the desire to share the things that they?ve learned in network marketing, that is why it is important that you are always ready to listen to what they have to say. One of the best ways to do this nowadays is through podcasts. You are likely to find some interesting and applicable advice if you sample a few of the different casts available.

TIP! Be honest with yourself about your intentions. Perhaps you are only interested in approaching network marketing in a casual, informal way.

When researching the network marketing company options, choose one with products that are of personal interest to you. Your own personal like or dislike for a product will show to potential customers, and affect your selling ability.

Create a monthly budget. If you want your business to be running to the best of its ability, then you need to know what sort of monetary investment is going to be required on your part. Remember that you cannot skimp on the budget if you want to see a profit. If you cannot invest money into your business or you are not willing to, you will not get far as a business owner.

Make it a point to find out how popular your users are in their networks. When presenting your products, make it so they would be happy to let their friends in on your products. If you?re fairly certain that someone isn?t going to purchase any of your products, don?t bother talking to him or her unless that person has his own extensive network.

TIP! Help from Internet sources like blogs and network marketing forums can be a smart way to keep yourself up-to-date and informed about the industry. Forums are a great place to start as you will find field experts, as well as beginners like yourself, who will be looking to share their real life network marketing experiences.

Keep your meeting to 60 minutes or less. The length of a business meeting often indicates how complicated the topic approached will be. By abbreviating your meeting, you can show your interested client that your system is straightforward.

Patience is required at first but you will see result grow exponentially when success does occur. A lot of amateurs allow themselves to become discouraged if they do not meet their goals early in the game. When you first begin your network marketing campaign, it will be slow; however, this is the most crucial time so don?t give up. The networking builds slowly over time and will eventually gather speed over the long term.

If you have decided to embark upon a network marketing campaign, it is important to consider the overall compensation package that is available to you and whom ever you have partnered or teamed up with. Being aware of the compensation that is included in your agreement will help you figure out if it is worth the time you are investing or if you should look into other opportunities.

TIP! If you truly want to be a successful network marketer, you really must want to help others succeed, as well. If your efforts at marketing are geared towards helping people with your offerings, your profits will rise.

The most important thing you can do in network marketing is to remember that it is a business, and it should be treated like one. If you expect to work just a few hours a week and earn a lot of money, you will not be successful. Network marketing, like any other field, requires a significant time and work investment. Keep a promise to yourself of working hard everyday, and that will make you a successful network marketer.

Consistently use a ongoing email database to achieve success with network marketing. It is possible to build or purchase a marketing list, and you want it to be as large as possible to ensure the success of your business.

TIP! Follow what others are doing to succeed. Look to the organization?s leaders for inspiration and motivation.

To succeed in network marketing, you must learn the most effective methods and then apply them to your business. If you know how to market by networking, you will see a rise in your profits. Use this advice to make your network marketing message more far-reaching

French Mamma Blog - Pregnancy & Parenting in France ? How to ...

Something every French mamma needs to know in France is how to serve family lunches. My husband and I returned this week from visiting family in Normandy and had lunch in Caen, le Manche, and Brittany at homes of different family members.

Normally, I would serve the food in the order of appetizer, salad, dinner, and then dessert. I did this one time for while hosting his family and my husband apologized to our guests. In France, you serve the salad after the dinner.

The first thing you will notice is how the table is set. It is typical to see a small plate on top of a larger plate and silverware on either side. In the USA, we place the forks with the prongs facing up, and in France they traditionally put them facing down. My mother-in-law said that it is considered vulgar to have them facing up.

A quick lunch may not have the same meaning for you as it does for your French guests? my husband?s idea of quick lunch is two hours, and mine is thirty minutes. So I gauge my schedule appropriately when he tells me we are going to have a quick lunch at so-and-so?s house. Lunches are generally served in courses, and the conversation never halts. This is a time for laughter and catching up with each other.? The TV is always kept off, except for one time. The Olympics was turned on and the volume was barely recognizable. No one sat and watched it while eating, but gave it the occasional glance between courses.

For large gatherings, we are served an aperitif before our meal is served. This is usually an alcoholic beverage, such as a liqueur, champagne (my personal favorite aperitif), whiskey, martini, alcohol to mix with fruit juice, beer, cider, or kir.? Once were were served some type of white wine with raspberries floating inside ? very pretty and delicious! I received some strange looks when I took a spoon and fished out excess rasberries after I finished my drink, whoops!

A regular meal usually starts off with something simple, called an ?ntree. This time of year we commonly have sliced melon or half an avocado. The ?ntree is typically simple and light. It spurs the appetite and gets your ready for what?s to come. If you are served melon, you need to cut it with a knife and fork. All my life I used my hands, so using utensils doesn?t come automatically. At first I was clumsy and barely got any melon from the skin, but I have the hang of it now. If it?s a formal lunch, the ?ntree gets a little more creative with different flavors and garnishes.

Wine flows as the main course, or plat principal is served. The main course usually includes a meat and an assortment of vegetables. Sometimes the host goes around the table and serves each member, other times serving trays are passed around for everyone to serve themselves. A baguette is usually cut into slices, placed inside a basket, and set in the middle of the table. It is common to rub the bread in the remaining sauce on the plate? my plate is usually sparkling clean when I?m done! Lucky for me, my new family here can really cook.

Just when you are feeling full, the platter of fromage (cheese) gets passed around. This is when I get carried away and eat too much. The key is to take a small nip of each cheese for taste so you don?t get full. I enjoy goat cheese at lunch because it is light and fresh after a large meal. I also don?t always eat cheese with bread, instead, I will eat the cheese plain or with a little confeture (jam).

If it is a typical lunch, then it is normal to have yogurt for dessert. My mother-in-law adds a spoonful of confeture to plain yogurt and I love it. I started doing this at home ? it?s so much more tastey than buying flavored yogurt, plus you can add more or less based on how much sugar you feel like having. It if is a large family lunch then you will most likely be served a g?teau (cake) or tart (pie). Usually there is one dessert for everyone, but once up north we were served two. I had a slice of a blueberry and an apple pie, and it was heavenly?. now it sits not-so-heavenly around my midsection. Oh well, it was worth it.

Depending on the family member, we are served different wines with each course or we have the same wine throughout the meal. While it seems like a lot of alcohol for lunch, no one is ever drunk. After the lunch, some people stay at the table for conversation but most people get up and go outside for a short walk. It?s common for my husband?s family to get up right after eating and do something together. While everyone is getting up, the host is cleaning the table. Another successful family gathering!
